Step 1 · Understand

Understanding what you might be experiencing

Putting a name to how you feel can make it a little lighter. These are common experiences, not labels, and you might recognise yourself in more than one.

Stress

Stress is your body and mind responding to demands. A little can sharpen focus, but when it's constant you might feel tense, short-tempered, or unable to switch off. It's a normal response to carrying a lot.

Worry and anxiety

Worry can become a loop that's hard to step out of: lying awake running through scenarios, a tight chest, or dreading certain conversations. Many directors experience this, especially during uncertain times.

Burnout

Burnout is a deep, lasting exhaustion that rest doesn't seem to fix. You might feel detached from work you once cared about, or like you're giving more and getting less back.

Isolation

Leading a business can mean holding worries on your own. You might feel you can't share with your team, clients or even family, which can make everything feel heavier.

You're not alone in this

These experiences are far more common among business owners than most people realise. Noticing them is a sign of self-awareness, not weakness.
